Beatboxing Tutorial with Tangent!

Lesson Plan - using sounds to create rhythms

Explore the different sounds we can make with our mouths.

  1. Get into partners and try different sounds and noises - don’t worry about what it looks like! Just enjoy! If you already know some beatboxing skills, this is a good time to share

  2. Watch the video with beatboxing Kalim!

  3. Discuss in partners - what did you notice? Can you make any of the same sounds?

  4. Try and create a rhythm pattern using clapping (example, can you clap this pattern: Tokyo Tower (Toe Ki Yo Tow-er)

  5. Now can you keep the rhythm pattern but this time, use your beatboxing sounds.

  6. Watch the video again with Kalim!

  7. Try the Lip Bass technique with your partner.

  8. Have time to explore more sounds - can you add words in like Kalim did, keeping them within the beat?

  9. It’s time to beatbox along to a song! Play Be Brave from LittleSong and make your own rhythms, whilst keeping to the beat. The main thing about being an accomplished beatboxer, like anything else, is to keep on practising!
